“The first creative task is to free the body to experience the power of being. It is first in that it is both where we must begin and what is most fundamental. Your body is the ground metaphor of your life, the expression of your existence. It is your Bible, your encyclopedia, your life story. Everything that happens to you is stored and reflected in your body. Your body knows; your body tells. The relationship of your self to your body is indivisible, inescapable, unavoidable. In the marriage of flesh and spirit, divorce is impossible, but that doesn’t mean that the marriage is necessarily happy or successful.” ~ Gabriel Roth
“So the body is where the dancing path to wholeness must begin. Only when you truly inhabit your body can you begin the healing journey. So many of us are not in our bodies, really at home and vibrantly present there. Nor are we in touch with the basic rhythms that constitute our bodily life. We live outside ourselves — in our heads, our memories, our longings — absentee landlords of our own estate. A brochure I saw at a chiropractor’s office says; ‘If you wear out your body, where are you going to live?” ~ Gabriel Roth

Shortly after a fairly epic moto ride out in the middle of the desert, to this dreamy swimhole, with Melissa following me in her truck, I went to find a place to camp (Melissa had to go back to Sedonna) and dropped my bike and broke my clutch cable! I waited around for a car to come up this teeny dirt road I had turned on to. Finally someone came and they totally helped me, by going and picking up their friends trailer and loading my bike onto it and taking it to a shop, which was closed by the time we got there but I was hopeful they could hook me up with anther clutch…. the next day. Holy Cow. Such kindness these people had!! And they totally saved my Ass. wow. I am a luck woman. Thank you, thank you Thankyou! And Peyson Arizona goes down in my books as one of the friendliest places on earth (and beautiful!) and I have a crush on the fellow who runs the moto shop, whom I met the next day when the shop finally (I was anxious) opened. Here are my reflections as I sat at a Denny’s and ate breakfast, waiting for 9:00am to come!
~
dishes clanking, old people sitting in booths eating, lady waitress’s whipping around, the distant conversation of the cooks coming from the direction of the kitchen, fat locals sitting at the breakfast bar, in seemingly no hurry. Apparently, A fellow has been watching me from his booth. I have been utterly, (Thoughts from the Road ~
dishes clanking, old people sitting in booths eating, lady waitress’s whipping around, the distant conversation of the cooks coming from the direction of the kitchen, fat locals sitting at the bar, in seemingly no hurry. A fellow has been watching me and I have been utterly unaware of this. ON purpose. Feeling a little exhausted and overstimulated…needing to not focus on what is in front of me, today I can’t handle taking in the stimulus from all around me.
Suddenly standing at my table, He startles me out of my concentration. Are you in the medical field, are you a nurse? you remind me of my nurse in Nam. The way you read, the way you lift your glass, the way you are eating your breakfast, even the way you write. I hesitate, No, I sadly say, wishing I was in the medical field and I could tell him Yes!
He referred to his nurse several times in the conversation and then, abruptly left. And I was left with a couple thoughts about this:
A. These nurses in Vietnam, wow! they were like angels to these men. I can see the depths of the affect they had, and can just imagine the mens affection for them….during such a hard time.
B. What is it with medical stuff! I hung out with a paramedic yesterday and felt a kinship and then just a couple days before that a friend of a friend had guessed I was a nurse, now this guys is sure I am a nurse….. Maybe it is a sign…?

Pulling out of Santa Fe I felt euphoric I had found a place near the plaza to stash my motorcyle. Always easy to find a parking spot for the moto. I did a quick change (hoping no one saw me but if they did, oh well) from my heavy dark moto gear into a sporty red skirt I had found at a boutique, the artist sold it to me for super cheap, my favorite plain black tank top and my trusty flip flops I keep in my tank bag. After a hot sweaty long ride I felt light as a flower. I left everything on my bike. With a quick prayer to the universe, “Please no one steal my stuff, universe.” I trotted off, half skipping because I felt so light and free and excited to see what was ahead. People everywhere as I got close. I love the orange adobe structures with the dark wood beams. Peoples outfits would have kept me entertained for hours. Colors so many colors and boots, of all sizes. Quality leather, quality stitching, skirts, scarfs….and then in the stores handmade, wallets, wooden coat hangars, necklace holders. Beautiful! People have taken such care and made such beautiful things.
Hungry, food to choose, fresh baked artisan bread, salads with things I didn’t even know existed, so delicious so colorful so satisfying. So creative. Such abundance.
I walked into a leather store and fell in love with a beautiful leather cowboy hat . I loved the stitching, loved the color, [Read more →]
