June 26th, 2008 · La Vida

Jeremy and I are fixing the Head Gasket in my Honda. That is the first big project of the summer. I am hopeful that completing this project will lead to the next step of the summer (buying a moto and GOING!!! Port Townsend, Washington via Tetons, White Springs Montana,Hells Canyon (Joseph) Oregon…and of course Hood River and Portland for a friendly Hello!)

Jeremy is guiding me through the process (bless his soul, how will I ever repay him!?) [Read more →]

Greek Festival, Denver

June 21st, 2008 · La Vida

Jeremy, Josh, Jimmy, Julia and I went (wow, all J’s! I didn’t realize that till I wrote it!) All went to the greek festival in Denver. It was so much fun. The greek culture seems so festive and relaxed and the food is delicious. After the festival, I was prepared to catch a sailboat going over to Greece! [Read more →]

2 – up moto camping

June 21st, 2008 · La Vida

I looked forward to this short 2 day camping trip for nearly 2 weeks! It was nearing the end of school and my friends who work in different school systems were already out for summer……… I can remember walking out of my house in Denver, staring up into the stars and wishing I could be sleeping underneath them, or doing night watch in the middle of the ocean……….not getting lesson plans ready for another hectic day of school! (not that I minded, it was some of the most fulfilling work I’ve ever done. But I was ready for SUmMerR!) So Forrest came through town on his v-strom and we were off, to explore a bit of Colorado’s front Range! [Read more →]

Red Ants Pants!

June 18th, 2008 · La Vida

Heres the start up story……….

On a farm where Sarah was raised,
Playing outside she spent her days.
One time she fell and started to cry.
She saw a hole in her pants, right at the thigh.

“What a bummer,” she thought, “these should have lasted longer.”
“If only these pants were a little bit stronger!”

On summer breaks from college, she helped her Dad with the hay.
She wore his old pants; they didn’t fit the right way.

Instructing for Outward Bound, she led kids in the woods.
When shopping for work pants, she found nothing good.

The Invitation

June 13th, 2008 · La Vida

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it’s not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Fresh,Fragile,Blooming!

June 2nd, 2008 · La Vida

THE WEEKEND OF JUNE FIRST ~
Bicycling through Denver. Its amazing. I can get anywhere in Denver on my bike! There is a great trail along the Platte river. As I’m cruising along (for miles! my body is sore as I write this) something is kinda weird. Finally, towards the end of my ride it hits me. Everyone I pass looks at me and most of them smile! That is weird. I realize, I’ve spent a lot of time bicycling around Portland and New York and people don’t acknowledge your presence, like they do in Colorado. People have an open friendliness here. I really love that
(or maybe its just because I lost 200 pounds and am now sexy! :-)) [Read more →]

Crazy Weekend

May 28th, 2008 · La Vida

Wow. It was a crazy weekend! I had so much fun. And now, I’m plowing through a rigorous work week. (How do you make kids STOP talking? And how on Earth, do they have SO much to say??) I just keep thinking about the weekend. Its amazing to me how life keeps moving. Even if you want to stand still and savor moments for just a little longer…….Life moves ya right along.

I’ve got a Public Speaking Class tomorrow, which I am DREADING! I am making myself take this class. Trust me, MAKING is the word. A class like this is pretty much one of my biggest fears in life. (what kind of a teacher’s biggest fear is public speaking!?)

Julia, email me those pictures of the weekend…………..please 🙂
