Weekend Hike

January 20th, 2008 · La Vida

I love the weekends! Time to do whatever you want to do…feels good to be working on all those projects I think about all week long. Not to mention, getting out and moving my body through the mountains of sunny Colorado. I sure could use more of that but its hard in winter. I leave for work when its dark and get home when its dark.
This morning my Dad and I went on a hike in the hogback. The hogback is a special area where the Rockies meet the plains. Its got beautiful red rock and sweeping meadows. Seeing it from a plane really gives you an idea of the grandness of it. Its such a dramatic contrast. As we were hiking up the mountain I was thinking in such a creative, fun writing voice. If only I could bring that voice onto paper and write a memoir or two……..I think people would enjoy reading them! What a great feeling it would be to share to share my perspective with the world. As for now I stumble through a fear of expressing myself in the world. Why? Where did this fear develop? Doubt, awe and the possibility of so much, seem to weave together and create a stuckness I can’t seem to break free of.

My Favorite Spot

January 20th, 2008 · La Vida

I found a spot where I can go and center myself. I think these special spots are important for reflection and keeping your path in life filled with intention. On the way up, is this tree which I stop and look at every time. Its beauty really captures me. Perhaps its that its the lone tree on the mountain, or its wild weathered look……..whatever it is, it brings a comforting feeling.

Once you climb up through the rocks and onto the Mesa you have a grand view of the town below and the mountains all around.

Christmas Break

January 7th, 2008 · La Vida

I took this picture on my drive back from Portland. It was somewhere in Wyoming. What a trip back that was! I spun out on ice and my car overheated 3 times until I finally figured out the problem. I spent a lot of time on the side of the highway. And let me tell you……People are so kind! All sorts of people were stopping to help and each one had some helpful/useful information to share. I feel so lucky to have tapped into all this kindness in one day. Especially a fellow named Harold he went above and beyond to help me out!

Here is a picture of the new Denver Art Museum. We walked around downtown denver the other night and Alex and Jeremy (both pursuing architect careers) explained the designs on some of the buildings. Really interesting to hear how much thought goes into a building.

I know, I know, this is a Patagonia advertisement….!
But, I think the two contrasting colors (light blue and black) and painted on the brick…..is beautiful! And then you throw in the tree branches disrupting it all AND the fact that Patagonia clothes designers do an awesome job…..and it becomes a beautiful picture 🙂

Emile, is the girl who painted this picture.
Bryan pointed me in the direction of her website
and I have been really inspired reading it. Her art captures “that thing”
about climbing, that is so hard to describe. Its truly a wonderful to be
Climbing, feeling your body on the rock and checking out the beautiful
views from way up high. Climbing is one of the few things in life that I’ve been
able to fully focus on.

One Last Fall Photo

One more fall color foto. I love Fall. For the first time I think its my favorite season. The long shadows, low light and colors make it really hard not to stop and take photos every few minutes.
