One of the events during this busy week was the Chili Cook off. Boats and their crew made chili and the rest of us paid money to get in and try all the different chili’s. The money went to an organization that was helping families move away from the “dump”. I feel a lot of empathy toward this situation because I read a book about life as a Mexican crossing the border to The U.S.A and also, what it is like to live in the “dump” in Mexico. Very sad and very real. In case you want to read it (and I strongly recommend it) Its called Coyote by Ted Conover.
At the Chile cook-off I met a woman named Vi. I ended up talking with her for most the night. You know, sometimes you just really like someone? That was Vi. For whatever reason I really liked being around her. She struck me as a very gentle, genuine soul. Here’s a photo of her husband Art, Vi and I.
