Here are Bego and Miso, (two regulars who frequent the bookstore/coffeeshop) and a writer, fellow who is new to town in the back. Bego (on the left) works for search and Rescue and writes up the “minutes”, a paper describing all the rescues they’ve done in the canyons, mountains, Rivers, and Desert.  There are a lot of adventure sports going on all around, and I’m so curious to hear about the situations people get into and how they react when the going gets tuff. Bego is kind enough to bring me a copy every time he writes them up!  Its a fascinating read…..and a wonderful learning experience for what NOT to do.

Customer of the Day!

October 5th, 2008 · La Vida

So, this fellow came into the bookstore carrying his IMac bigscreen computer, like it was a laptop. He asked me where there might be a plug. I set him up in kinda an odd spot because customers were using the other plugs. He got himself all set up on the floor of the bookstore with his big screen Imac. It was hilarious! A sight you don’t see everyday. I noticed how it brought a feeling of togetherness to the store. Some were curious as to what he was doing and so they talked to him. Some chuckled to their neighbor about how funny this guy looked. I was serving up coffee in the front and talking to some folks about the changing of the leaves and how BEAUTIFUL it is on the Colorado passes and up in the Sals right now. The fellow on the big screen held up his monitor and shouted acrosss the bookstore for me to look at his picture from the La Sals. On the screen I looked at, bobbing in the air, were yellow and red aspen leaves towering into the blue sky. Gorgeous. It was a fun moment. I kept chuckling to myself thinking about this guy walking in like he was carrying a laptop and setting it up like it was no big deal. I was suppose to close at 8:00 but everyone was having such a good time and customers kept walking in a wanting coffee………that I stayed open another 45 min. The fellow with the big screen left me a $10 tip. Yeah!

Two Englishmen

My time in Moab has been unbelievable. Every day, something magical seems to happen. I’m really enjoying the small town feel and being surrounded by happy people who are here because there is no place they’d rather be. The striking beauty here never dulls. Cliffs spanning into the sky, the Bright green trees, the Blue, blue sky the raging river the bright starry nights…..I can’t even capture in words. It’s simply amazing here.

Every day……….and thats no exaggeration, Everyday so far I’ve met someone or some people who are SOO interesting, I mean really.  Either in the bookstore or Moto shop.  I’d like to do a “Customer Of The Day” section for my Blog…..to try and illustrate some of the amazing people and stories I’ve heard!

Life in Moab

September 27th, 2008 · La Vida

Peggy is my next door neighbor while I am staying at Fred’s. I feel lucky to have her as my neighbor, she’s been nothing but kind. The first morning I arrived and was discombobulated and a little scared (the phones, for the motorcycle shop are spread all around the house and were ringing off the hook. I was nervous to answer them because I didn’t know any of the answers the person on the other line would ask me.) Peggy invited me over for waffles and its been nothing but kindness since…flowers, to cucumbers to the best homemade cookies I’ve ever eaten to hikes to friendly good mornings…….

We harvested “popcorn” corn from Peggy’s garden. I was amazed that each stalk that we unwrapped was a different color. Talk about feeling like fall is on its way!

Yoga on the Rocks! Aunt Ana,Ali,Wes and Jeremy

Over Labor Day Weekend, I had a lot of visitors. It was so fun for me to show them my “special” spots and explore new ones with them. Since I’ve arrived I have mostly been working, so the opportunity to spend time in the canyons swimming, climbing, exploring and visiting was extra special. I love it, when you live somewhere really great, people will come visit you! And another great thing about Moab is it in “on the way” In the short time I’ve been here quite a few people have visited who happen to be passing through. I would really like to have a motorcycle Bed and Breakfast coffee shop deal here. I know it would be a hit!

Aunt Ana :-)…….lets do it! [Read more →]

Sand Flats in the AM

September 7th, 2008 · La Vida

In the early morning, I’ve been going up to Sand Flats and finding a rock over looking the sunken valley of Moab and the cliffs accentuating the scene.   I like to sit and think, do yoga, read and write in my journal.  During this morning time, I  get inspired to write majestic blog entries………..but then on the drive back to the house I get swamped with all that there is to get done!  And some how, my sing-songy-creative writing voice disappears.

I’ve moved to MoAB!
Plan is to live here for a couple months help out a friend and save up some money to go do the Baja haha sailboat rally from San Diego down to Cabo San Lucas. I’m housesitting for my Fred, helping out with his Moto business and working at a coffee shop/book store. I feel like I have found my home. I LOVE Moab and all it has to offer and I’m loving being surrounded by motorcycles, books, coffee and adventure vagabonds like myself!

Sunset on Longs Peak

September 5th, 2008 · La Vida

Before leaving Colorado, Nathan and I went on a hike up the mountain that overlooks the valley I grew up in.  It is one of those “special” spots for me, where i feel centered and inspired. You must climb to get to the top and once on top you have a 360 degree view of mountains, valley and Denver.  When  I was younger I sometimes hiked up in the morning to catch the sunrise…….a great way to start an inspired day!!!
