A perfectly timed text floated across my screen this morning…..

March 16th, 2012 · La Vida

while I was sitting at the Tattered Cover eavesdropping on a convers…I mean!  While I was READING the book; The voice of Knowledge by Don Miguel Ruiz.

“In the moment when we separate from God, we begin to search for God, for the love we believe we don’t have.  Humans are continually searching for justice, for beauty, for truth- for the way we used to be before we believed in lies.  We are searching for our authentic self.”  What is truth is real.  What is not truth is not real.  Its an illusion, but it looks real.  Love is real.  It’s the supreme expression of life.”

It was Bethany! and her message says:

“Dear Laura, You and I need to stop working for other people.  Really we’re way to smart for that.  Lets keep talking about this adventure business, motorcycles and climbing mountains and going into canyons”

And I say……..HELL YEAH!!!!

made my day 🙂

Even Indian Goddess’s struggle (every once in awhile!)

March 16th, 2012 · La Vida

“What the hell is going on?!?!?!  I keep having these mini emergencies that completely stress me out and prevent me from saving any money at all.  Veterinary emergencies, broken furnace, leaky roof, speeding ticket (ok, I ran a red light), family strife, pink eye, broken tree branches threatening to fall on someone’s head   . . .  so I have been a stress case, my back is killing me due to a combo of stress and extreme snow shoveling.  And I definitely feel like I am somehow bringing it all down on myself.  So I decide to pull it together.  I spent my three day weekend relaxing and not “doing.”  Then on Monday, in an effort to be serene and relaxed, and on time to work, I woke up at 5:30, packed a delicious healthy breakfast and lunch, did yoga in my living room, got ready for work, and put my purse and food in my car so I wouldn’t forget a thing.  I defrosted and warmed up my car, then I drove cassidy to the dog park so she could have a solid 30 minute play time in the off leash area.  Then at precisely the right time, I harnessed Cassidy and headed to my car to do a quick dog drop off at the house and then drive to work where I would arrive well rested, excersised, well fed, and knowing my sweet animal was tired and resting at home.

But NO.  NO NO NO.  [Read more →]

Reflections on a Colorado visit (from land of palm trees)

March 16th, 2012 · La Vida

Above:  Bryan and Heather and Jake.  After their skiing /snowshoeing adventures, Bryan and his wife Sou came to the city for a visit!  Which I Sooooo appreciated.  Such a treat to see them and have the afternoon the hang out!  Here was a poetic email from Bryan: (what a writer he is!)

“Hey Laura, It was great to see you and great to see Colorado!  It was great to feel the cold and BE cold. It was great to see snow and experience the wonder of watching snow fall. It was great to dress in long pants, long sleeve shirts plus a jacket.  It was great to put on shoeshoes and walk through the snow covered forest.  It was great to experience the intense quiet that can only be experienced IN a snow covered forest.
It was great to see an old friend (but not feel old) and have uninhibited conversation.  It was great to drink red wine in a rooftop loft.  It was great to prowl around your apartment and be inspired by your space, your “artsy-ness”, and your art.  It was great to eat Thai food. It was great to walk down streets I knew at one time and rediscovered from the far corners of my memory.  It was great to stand outside the hotel on a beautiful Colorado morning and look at the front range with awe.”

Snow Skiing with the Kirby’s!

February 29th, 2012 · La Vida

It was a beautiful Colorado snow skiing day and I was in heaven on the slopes.  I hadn’t been snowboarding for about 5 seasons (?) Knowing that Bryan and his family were really good skiers I was a little nervous about holding them up.  But just one minute on my board and it was like I had gone only yesterday.  It was incredible!! And I started thinking about all my skiing trips and realized that skiing (snowboarding) has been a big part of my life.  It has shaped me in so many ways.  When I was little, conquering my fear of heights by forcing myself to mount the chairlift each time, which was a HUGE lesson for me.  Snowboarding offers a total release, escape and utter freedom, I rediscovered this weekend, to my delight.  You can be WILD and FAST, with no repercussions (ie speeding tickets! doh)

The Kirby's generosity has been INCREDiBLE over the years. It is great inspiration to me and also makes me feel like because I have received so much it is my job to pass it on in any way I can! Thank you Kirby's!

So, why don’t I go snowboarding anymore?  I’ve got these beautiful mountains right in my backyard……I’m not entirely sure…its a little crazy to spend most my Colorado time muddling in the city. But then……….there is the TRAFFIC problem. ICK!!!
