Sayulita…..a surfing town

January 11th, 2009 · La Vida

Sayulita is a buzzing little  gringo surf town.  Lots of fun!  Lots of beach, lots of surf, lots of good looking people, lots of coble-stone streets, lots of good little coffee spots…lots of people.  And there is the famous Coco Banana.  There logo is surprisingly similar to Starbucks.  Why?  Are they imitating it? Are they owned by it? Did Starbucks imitate them. Is is coincidence?  Do they have the same marketing company?  These are the types of things I’m thinking about when I “zone out”!  If anyone knows the answers, I’d be super curious to know.

After our wonderful stay will Heather and David…..Ann, Paul and I took the bus to Sayulita.  On our way, we had to change busses and a nice fellow offered to take us the rest of the way.  We went from treking with our luggage to some far away unknown bus stop and waiting for who knows how long…………..to cruising in the back of a pick-up, breeze on our face.

An inspiring writing spot, listening to the waves and writing in candle-light with my toes wiggling in the sand 🙂

Lets Get Real, Laura!

January 1st, 2009 · La Vida

Holy fricken Sh#$@**!! I’m trying to get all caught up on my blog for the new year and because my life is taking a different turn….But, Damn! I’ve been spending hours on this…..not to mention the emails I still need to answer….not to mention I’m in a new Mexican City I’d love to be exploring AND as I read over this Blog………I’m annoyed at my writing. Everything is fantastic, amazing, inspiring……happy go-lucky, cheery and wonderful. I hope I”m not boring the heck out of you! Everything isn’t always so AMAZING….trust me! I feel like an introverted soul….trying to live in an extroverted world….and sometimes that feels hard. Not to mention, that I’m sensitive and often take things personally that I shouldn’t! My goal is to get more honest with my writing this year! But…not to discredit what I have written………. So far, this voyage {adventure, pilgrimage, trip, viaje vacaciones, journey}(what ever the heck you call my most recent adventure) has felt profound and I’ve felt a deep happiness and freedom within that I’ve rarely touched on before.  It’s almost like I’m blooming.  I have a strong urge to share it with you who are interested….I feel its part of what I have to offer the world.  And I’m thrilled that people read and care.  I promise to try and make it better!

Heather,David,Kitty and Ann ~

January 1st, 2009 · La Vida

What a cute couple these two are!  I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them.  Heather is young and David is older and they seem to truly bring out the best in each other. Their generosity and fun lovingness wove into everything we did.  Getting to know these guys is making me  rethink my hesitancy to date older men.  If your soul connects……..your soul connects……no matter what age, right?  Is it really that simple?

And, Heather is a die-heart blogger and photographer.  Check out her blog.  She  does a wonderful job of keeping up on it too :-).  She did  some great write-ups on our trip, check them out. CHacala (also, click on Heather and David’s sailing adventures on the right hand side of my Blog)

Here’s kitty, enjoying his spot on the Nav Station.

Ann.  A truly remarkable woman.  I hope we do more traveling together!  The questions that she asked, had me thinking more and opening up more than I have in a long time. She’s a deep thinker and leads an inspiring life.  She was fascinating to get to know.

Back To the sleepy village of Chacala

January 1st, 2009 · La Vida

So finally our last party and the fun was about to end……until…..Heather and David invited me and Ann and Merry aboard Eupsychia for a few days excursion up to Chacala. I was excited to have the opportunity to go because, all the people going…………..so much fun! I knew it would be a good time, even if it meant 6 of us on a Cal 36ft. 🙂

Here’s the Crew!

Chile Cook-Off

January 1st, 2009 · La Vida

One of the events during this busy week was the Chili Cook off. Boats and their crew made chili and the rest of us paid money to get in and try all the different chili’s. The money went to an organization that was helping families move away from the “dump”. I feel a lot of empathy toward this situation because I read a book about life as a Mexican crossing the border to The U.S.A and also, what it is like to live in the “dump” in Mexico. Very sad and very real. In case you want to read it (and I strongly recommend it) Its called Coyote by Ted Conover.

At the Chile cook-off I met a woman named Vi. I ended up talking with her for most the night. You know, sometimes you just really like someone? That was Vi. For whatever reason I really liked being around her. She struck me as a very gentle, genuine soul. Here’s a photo of her husband Art, Vi and I.

Surfing and Moto’ing

January 1st, 2009 · La Vida

Surfing! Thanks to Richard’s help, I caught wave after wave. It was incredible. I’m seriously considering being a surf bum for at least a couple weeks. I paddled so much I could hardly move but I didn’t want to stop, it was so fun! ANd the next morning…….I felt wonderful. My body wants to be active…..

Richard believes his point in life is to help people have fun. He is a master at it. I’m quite inspired by what he’s done with the magazine (Lattitude 38), organizing the bajahaha and organizing all sorts of other little events. He’s plays such a key role in getting people up and out and participating in life. He’s one of those people that almost seems bigger than life……someone who has found what he’s passionate about in the world and is doing it!

I went on a Sunday moto ride with him and a group of fun loving moto die hearts, up to Sayulita. WEEE HAAA! SO fun! I love riding on moto’s, especially in Mexico!! The road was lush, green and curvy and it felt especially wonderful because I haven’t ridden in a car for days……let alone a moto.

We had breakfast at Rollies “Breakfast in Paradise”. Rollies, is an inspiring story in itself. An elementary school principal for 20 years, retired and carried out his dream of running a breakfast restaurant in Mexico with his wife. My breakfast was DElicious and even better was the coffee. The place is filled with a loving, caring feeling, of dreams come true. (I’m taking notes for a place of my own someday…. :-))

A whirl of fun

January 1st, 2009 · La Vida

Banderist Bay Blast.  I don’t even know where to begin…………or end but suffice it to say……it was a Blast!

A week of sailing….friendly racing and fun parties put on my folks, free and ready to have some fun and encouraging everyone in there wake to do the same!

Heather and Carol.  Damn their sexy.  Heather has been a lot of fun to meet.  She is very real and likes to have a good time!  She also seems to be Richard’s favorite character for “Lattitude 38!”

Here I am, during one of the paries, wearing my sexy pirate outfit (inspired by Heather!)  Our boat (Capricorn Cat) made a strong showing at this party…….we were the only ones dressed up!  But not to worry, soon everyone had mustaches…..!  Check this photo out on lectronic lattitudes.

More fun

Merry, on Cap Cat during one of the races

One of the races was down wind………meaning Spinnaker fun!

Monte invited me to crew on his boat for a couple of the races.  It was kinda hard to part with my CapCat Crew but………..a wonderful opportunity to have more time on the lines and get to know Monte and his boat.   Monte was a wonderful teacher…..letting me do nearly everything.  I had some revelations about sailing that I hadn’t had before!  I’m learning slowly……. but surely!

Merry Arrives, Eric leaves

December 31st, 2008 · La Vida

I’d been hearing about Merry for days before her arrival. I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive about her coming because I knew it meant I would lose my role as the ” special princess” which I was quite enjoying! Sure enough, she was just as great as everyone said…..and I definitely lost my role :-). Once she arrived though….. things got even more fun. She brought life to everyone and everything. She is one of the best conversationalist I’ve ever met. Here’s a photo of her and Wayne fixing her shoes.

I was pretty sad to see Eric go. It felt like I was losing the older brother I always wanted. But I think we’ve got a lifelong friendship. He’s a real special person. Along with a number of other things he gave me before he left……he gave me a Kata he got Nepal, that was blessed by the Dalai Lama. Its a fragile white silk scarf, a gift given in the Tibetan custom that lends a positive note to the start of an enterprise….. a Journey piece. This gift means a lot to me! I’ve been taking it with me everywhere……of course!

Chopping

December 31st, 2008 · La Vida

Here I am, chopping vegies for breakfast omlettes. I must admit……..my culinary skill are not the greatest. I think they could be……but I don’t have much of an interest. Sometimes, if I taste a really good bread or cinnamon rolls or tomato soup or tomoto sauce…..I’ll get inspired and ask for the recipe but other than that, I’d rather not cook. I think I’ve been spoiled in life, as I’ve been around people who are passionate about cooking and real artist’s in the kitchen. Some people who especially come to mind are Susan from Ithaca and Dan from Portland. I have enjoyed some delicious food! ME? I’m passionate about eating it! Ya gotta have someone to enjoy it, right? So, my role on Capricorn Cat has been the chopper of veggies, while Carol and Eric cook some delicious meals.
